Yesterday the President signed a stopgap funding bill that keeps the government running through 20 December. The additional time will help congressional negotiators wrap up more than $1.4 trillion in unfinished appropriations bills.

Settling allocations for many federal departments and agencies has the chafing point in a budget process that remained stalled this week. With the passage of yesterday’s measure and the approaching end of the year, appropriators are optimistic they can reach an agreement on some of these numbers and pass many of the regular funding bills before the new December deadline.
