LENEXA, Kan.— Grantham University, a leader in online military education, in conjunction with the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) has awarded a $36,000 scholarship to Damon Nakatani of Waianae, Hawaii. He will pursue a bachelor’s of science in information systems.

Nakatani is employed as website administrator for his church, the Ark of Safety Christian Fellowship in Waianae. In updating the calendar of events for the site, Nakatani discovered a way to redesign the site that saved the church significant funds each year.

“Since then, I have been trying to take courses that would help me to enhance the website,” Nakatani said. He added that the scholarship funds will help Nakatani to serve his church, his community, his family and the Air National Guard, where he serves as a master sergeant.

Nakatani and his wife, Paris, have six children at home ranging from age 6 to 15, including a son who was born with spina bifida. “I look forward to aiming high in pursuit of this bachelor’s degree program and working with the Grantham University team and EANGUS,” Nakatani said.

The scholarship recipient must be an EANGUS member or immediate family member and must submit an essay with personal facts about the student’s desire to continue their education and why financial assistance is necessary, said Michael Hooker, senior manager, Organizational Partnerships at Grantham.

The EANGUS Scholarship was announced the week of August 10-13 during the 43rd annual EANGUS Conference. Grantham University offers a variety of scholarships to deserving students, along with various financial assistance programs.
