EANGUS Provides Support for H.R. 5589, the Veteran Education Empowerment Act

On Wednesday, October 15, 2014, the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States (EANGUS) National Office gave its support to Representative Frankel (FL-22) regarding H.R. 5589, Veteran Education Empowerment Act.  H.R. 5589 would create a grant to establish veteran student centers at local colleges and universities across the country to help our veterans succeed in academic life and find a job.  Veteran student centers are a recognized institutional best practice that afford students networking opportunities with other student veterans, information on obtaining federal benefits, and career services to prepare for job interviews and effectively translate veteran skill sets to the workforce. H.R. 5589 has bipartisan support, two co-sponsors, and was referred to the House Committee on Education and the Workforce on September 18, 2014.  Please Click here to track the progress of H.R. 5589.  The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars USA, the American Legion, the Association of the United States Navy, the National Guard Association of the United States, the Student Veterans of America, and the American Council on Education are also in support.  For more information, email Scott Bousum, EANGUS Legislative Director at scott@eangus.org.
