Ryan Silverberg, Senior Legislative Assistant to Congressman John Kline (MN – 2nd District) send MNGEA a recap and status update regarding some House bills affecting veterans. See his email message below ….
“As Congress prepares for its Fall agenda, I wanted to touch base with you to recap some important pieces of veterans legislation Congressman Kline has supported so far this year. In all, the House passed some 17 pieces of legislation in the Spring and Summer to aid veterans. Feedback from stakeholders like yourself has helped guide policy changes Congress makes. Below is a snapshot of some key legislation passed by the House. Clicking on each bill title will lead to a page describing in detail what each bill does.
H.R. 1994 – VA Accountability Act
H.R. 294 – Long-Term Care Veteran Choice
H.R. 280 – VA Bonus and Award Reform
H.R. 474 – Homeless Veteran’s Reintegration
H.R. 1382 – Boosting Rates of American Veteran Employment
H.R. 2499 – Veterans Entrepreneurship
Additionally, the House passed H.R. 3236 on July 29, 2015. This legislation gave the VA authority to use the Veterans Choice Fund to pay for health care for eligible veterans and ensure VA can continue to operate as normal headed in to the Fall. The VA had told Congress it was going to run out of funds in the near future unless additional funding was provided. On July 31, 2015, President Obama signed the funding into law.”
Thanks to Congressman Kline’s office for keeping us in the loop and supporting the well being of our Armed Forces veterans (Active, Guard and Reserve)!
