State Sponsored Life Insurance (SSLI) is a program that provides group term life insurance exclusively for National Guard members and their dependents. The program is derived from United States Public Law 93-289, May 24, 1974, to encourage persons to join and remain in the National Guard. It is available in all fifty states and territories. SSLI provides outstanding benefits to members AND families not available through SGLI (Servicemen’s Group Life Insurance). Regardless of whether or not you are a member of the Officer or Enlisted Associations, each Minnesota National Guard member (Army or Air) is automatically offered a FREE a $1,000 Group Term Life Coverage under the Militia Guardian Group Term Life Plan at no cost to the National Guard member, paid for by the Militia Insurance Trust.
