Once again, funding for a portion of the federal government has come down to the wire. On Wednesday the Senate passed another continuing resolution (CR) to keep the unfunded portion of the federal government open through February 8. The White House quickly signaled its opposition to that deal because it did not contain funding for a border wall. The House then voted on Thursday to give the president $5.7 billion for a border wall, a move the Senate is expected to reject later today. Negotiations will continue throughout the day and unless the situation is resolved, a partial shutdown will occur once the current CR expires at midnight tonight. Most of the government’s FY2019 funding though-including spending designated for military and Veterans programs was signed into law earlier this year so roughly 80 percent of the government agencies will continue uninterrupted, regardless of how this latest fight ends.
