In case you missed it, the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) will be 2% in 2018 which is the first substantial increase in years.  This means the monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for more than 66 million Americans will increase 2.0 percent in 2018.

The 2.0 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will begin with benefits payable to more than 61 million Social Security beneficiaries in January 2018. Increased payments to more than 8 million SSI beneficiaries will begin on December 29, 2017. (Note: some people receive both Social Security and SSI benefits)

·  The COLA for Retired military veterans, VA rates for compensation and pension for disabled veterans and surviving families will be effective December 1, 2017 and will be reflected on the first check to be paid on December 31, 2017.

·  Social Security benefits will be effective beginning with the December 2016 benefits, which are payable in January 2018.​
